SPICe+ Filing: A Founder's Guide to Company Incorporation in India

What SPICe+ actually is, the documents it bundles, and where most first-time founders lose weeks to name rejections and resubmissions.

If you've started researching how to incorporate a company in India, you've already run into the acronym SPICe+ — short for "Simplified Proforma for Incorporating a Company Electronically Plus." It's the single web form the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) uses to bundle what used to be eight separate applications into one filing.

Understanding what's actually inside it is the difference between a six-day incorporation and a six-week one.

What SPICe+ bundles together

  • Name reservation (Part A) — checked against the existing company register and trademark database
  • Incorporation application (Part B) — DIN allotment for directors, MOA and AOA, registered office details
  • PAN and TAN application, issued alongside the Certificate of Incorporation
  • EPFO, ESIC, and Professional Tax registration (state-dependent)
  • Bank account opening request, routed to your chosen bank partner

Filing all of this correctly on the first attempt is what keeps the process to about a week. Filing it incorrectly restarts the clock.

Where founders lose the most time

Name rejection. The MCA checks proposed names against existing companies, LLPs, and trademarks. A name that's "close enough" to an existing mark gets kicked back — with only a short explanation of why.

DSC and DIN mismatches. Digital Signature Certificates must match the exact PAN details of each director, down to formatting. A mismatched middle name is enough to bounce a submission.

MOA/AOA drafting errors. These documents define what your company is legally allowed to do. Generic templates often list an object clause too narrow (or too broad) for the business actually being run, which becomes a rework item.

A CS-reviewed SPICe+ filing typically clears in 6–9 days when the name and documents are right the first time — which is the entire value a practising Company Secretary adds: catching what a template can't.
