Internal Controls for Telangana Businesses: Plants, Branches and Payment Fraud
Control priorities for Telangana businesses — multi-site plants around Hyderabad, branch cash, contract labour, state compliance and the payment frauds most often seen locally.
Telangana's business base ranges from pharma and manufacturing units in industrial areas around Hyderabad to IT companies in HITEC City and trading businesses across the state. Each has its own control risks. This guide covers the areas we see most often.
Multi-site Plants and Warehouses
Many Telangana manufacturers run a head office in Hyderabad with plants in industrial parks developed by TGIIC (formerly TSIIC) or in areas like Jeedimetla, Bollaram, Pashamylaram or Kothur. Controls to focus on include:
- Gate controls matching inward and outward materials with GRNs, invoices and e-way bills.
- Periodic stock counts at each site, with differences investigated centrally.
- Scrap sales approved and priced centrally, with GST invoices raised.
- Site-level purchases limited, with larger items going through head office.
Contract Labour
Plants often rely on contractors for labour. Verify contractor attendance against gate records, check that contractors deposit PF and ESI for their workers, and keep licences under the Contract Labour Act current. As principal employer, the business can be liable for contractor defaults.
Branch and Retail Cash
- Deposit cash daily, and reconcile deposits to sales.
- Run surprise cash counts.
- Reconcile UPI and card settlements to sales reports.
Payment Fraud
Business email compromise — fraudsters posing as vendors or senior management to redirect payments — is widely reported. Verify every bank detail change by phone using known contact details, require two-person payment release, and be suspicious of urgency. Report cyber fraud quickly through the national cybercrime helpline 1930 or cybercrime.gov.in; quick reporting improves the chance of freezing funds.
State Compliance Controls
- Track Telangana Professional Tax payments and returns.
- Keep TG-iPASS approvals, factory licences, pollution control consents and fire NOCs current, with renewal dates in a compliance calendar.
- Track Labour Welfare Fund contributions and Shops and Establishments registrations.
